Background

This topic outlines the criteria governing the eligibility for a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP), in particular for those who are affected by the Social Sector Size Criteria (SSSC). The source of this information is Richard Smith, Benefits Team Leader.

 

Assuming that a person is in receipt of Housing Benefits and so, in turn, eligible for a DHP award, we will look at each case on its individual merits. In doing so we will consider, amongst other things, the following:

  

 

These are not the only factors that we would consider because each application has to be considered on its own merits. Experience has taught us that there are so many different extenuating circumstances that people can include in their application which need to be considered before a decision can be made.
