Supported Lodgings

Topic last updated May 2018

As part of its work, Townhall Lettings (THL) offers advice and support to landlords interested in letting a spare room out, acting as a matching service between landlords and potential tenants. Under the Supported Lodgings scheme, hosts provide accommodation (usually for a minimum of 6 months) to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. THL advises on a number of issues relating to letting a room out, including property standards, rent collection and drawing up a lodgings agreement. THL is also available to provide support to both lodger and landlord for the duration of the arrangement.

To access a room in a lodgings placement, housing advisers should refer a client through the Single Homelessness Service. Vacancies are generally rare, but THL will make advisers aware of vacancies when they occur.
